• Mild winters keep rodents active continuously. In colder regions, rodent activity slows during winter months. In Los Angeles and Orange County, there is no seasonal drop-off, which means wiring is at risk in every vehicle, in every season.
• Dense urban and hillside environments push rodents toward vehicles. Landscaping, canyons, greenbelts, and older infrastructure throughout both counties support large rodent populations, and parked vehicles are often the nearest enclosed shelter available.
• Soy-based wire insulation is now standard. Most manufacturers switched to plant-based wire coatings for environmental reasons over the past decade. Rodents are drawn to it directly, and once a harness is chewed, the insulation no longer protects the conductor inside it.
• Vehicles sit parked for long stretches. Second cars, work vehicles, and vehicles in garages or shared structures go undisturbed for days at a time, which is exactly the condition that allows a rodent to settle in and begin chewing without interruption.
